Buxton Humanists November 2009 Meeting.

Humanist group to hear about Transition Buxton

Cath Johnstone from “Transition Buxton" will speak at the next meeting of the group to be held on Monday 16th November at 7.30pm in the piano lounge at the Old Hall Hotel.

A Transition Town comes into being when a group of local concerned individuals come together to consider how their own community can respond to the challenges, and opportunities, of Peak Oil and Climate Change.  There are over 200 Transition Towns worldwide.

Humanists believe that we are all responsible for our own actions and the Transition movement is all about what we can do in our communities to redress the situation rather than just waiting for the government to act.

The last meeting of the group in October was entitled a Debate on Faith Schools but no-one turned up to speak for them so the talk and discussions focussed on the myth of faith schools performing better than community schools when like is compared to like, the blurring of the distinction between ethics and religion, and on the social divisiveness of faith schools.

For further details of the group, please ring Marge Rose on 01298 72310 and leave a message or go to the Greater Manchester Humanists website at www.gmh.humanist.org.uk
