Hello All,
I have just uploaded two Files to the Site (Links below), for anyone to sponsor/contribute towards "Rob's Run" which will consist of me participating in the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow on September 6th 2009. This is a multi-fold exercise, primarily to help raise funds for CEFET, a registered charity, which is a European funding broker which has helped grassroot groups and small charities across the East Midlands get an extra £28 million of European funding over the last 7 years. Secondly, this race is a personal challenge, as I last completed the same event in 2006 (for a different charity) and have (despite doing all the healthy things) gained some weight since then. On 1st January I weighed in at 17.5 stones, most of which could be easily attributed to medication I take for having a diagnosis of Bi-Polar. So, my motivation is a personal one - to lose some weight and get fitter, my goal is to raise as much money as possible for CEFET, which in 2004 and 2005 provided funding via the Catalyst Fund to enable A.I.M. (my self-help group) to stage World Mental Health Day events, which were very successful in taking mental health issues to the public in a participatory way.
At present, I now weigh-in at 15.5 stones, as I am taking this challenge rather seriously and am determined to fulfil both my objectives and have been exercising more and adopting lifestyle changes recommended by my GP who has been very supportive of this.
I hope the "Rob's Run" Files are accessible for you to sponsor/donate and also feel free to pass on to other people please, CEFET has a FREEPOST address for anyone wishing to send by post. Shortly there will be a Giftaid page on CEFET's website for online sponsorship/donations http://www.cefet.org.uk/
The Great Scottish Run is a Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, and there will be around 20,000 participants. Yours truly being one of them, any sponsorship/donations will be very welcome.
Thank you in advance,
Best wishes,
Rob Hanlon
